    The gardens

The roof was leaking outside our room and we woke up to 4 buckets outside the door and a dripping noise all night. Staff very overworked lead to a long wait for breakfast.

    Fabulous

The young lady who looked after me at breakfast.... I had a 6.30 start --noone had told her but she got me breakfast... Well done.

  • 6.2
    Good

The breakfast is very good. The grounds are very relaxing.

Interior looks tatty. The rooms are in need of redecoration and the bathrooms refurbishment. This hotel could be so much more with a little investment.

Nothing Dirty entrance flower pot full of cigarette end and not emptied while we were there.Windows in our room dirty carpet between the bed matted with dog hair, hair dryer not working, the electics on the toilet broke so we had to move rooms, better room ,but the towel rail fell off the wall, badly bruising my foot Ruined weekend

    Good

The whole experience of staying in an old country house was very nice, the room with its high ceilings was nice and airy.

The room was nice but the mattress from single bed extremely uncomfortable. The springs were nearly sticking out. The music from a wedding party kept us awake . the table with the kettle was full of sticky stains that looked like jam and there were no spoons on the tea service. It needed the force of 2 hands to turn that shower on

    Fabulous

The staff have a "can do" attitude which can be quite rare these days in the service industry. The hotel was really unusual and a pleasure to stay in.

Very friendly helpful staff, excellent food including gluten free bread at each meal.

    Superb

The hotel staf were very welcoming, food was excellent and the room was quality. Never slept so well in a long time. I've already recommended this hotel to friends who enjoy visiting the lake district.

Creaky floorboards but being very picky saying that

    Very good

We liked the warm and friendly atmosphere of the hotel and there was a warm welcome when we arrived. My husband has difficulty walking so we were allocated a ground floor room which had disable facilities, they were adequate.

    Food was excellent

    Room was a little small & under-equipped

    Very good

    A good overall experience.

Wallpaper in the bedroom coming off the walls. A full iron scorch mark on the bedroom carpet.

    Fabulous

Peaceful location, near to Arthur Wainswright's fell walks (transport is required if you want to explore the country side etc).

Hotel staff very helpful and friendly, room comfortable and clean. Room serviced daily. Varied choice at breakfast. Hotel is old dates back to around 1837 so a little shabby chic in places but there was lots of evidence of staff upkeeping the place and happy going about it too so well done to them.

  • 6.2
    Good

Quiet location, pleasant gardens, characterful building

External decorations need attention, bar area basic and uncomfortable, not near Ennerdale (Lake District) despite its name.
